"So, Mr. Lawman," she said, glancing at the Colt strapped to his hip and at the same time wiping away a tear, "tell Mama what you've been up to this morning."
"Been listening to the radio?"
She shook her head. Her short blonde hair was barely ruffled by the gesture. "Why, should I be?"
"Have you ever been through a hurricane?"
"Damn," she said, grinning, "don't tell me there's something else I've been missing."
Bartholomew squinted out at the gulf and set his cup down. "Actually, there's two ways of getting through one. You can hightail it out of here, look for some nice, safe, dry place and wait out the storm, or you can have yourself a hurricane party and ride the storm out here."
"I've got a better idea," she said. "Why don't you and I get a bottle of wine, a couple of candles and go crawl between the covers until the storm passes?"
The suggestion brought a smile to Bartholomew's face. "Gotta admit, that's a helluva lot better than either of my alternatives."
Linda got up and began searching through the cabinets above her stove. "The first thing I've got to do is find the candles."
